Since graduating from Otago Polytechnic in 2017 Bronwyn Jones has been living and working as a ceramic artist in the top of the South Island of New Zealand.

Bronwyn appreciates the tactile nature of clay, and believes that physical contact is an essential component of the creation process. Each artwork is coaxed into its unique form and each piece respected regardless of it being an artwork or a functional item.

Bronwyn has been drawn to the allure of porcelain after exploring the European obsession with porcelain, which has spanned centuries. The possession of imported asian porcelain an indicator of wealth and status,  irrelevent to its function.  Her sculptural pieces are often non-functional works that reflect that history, and the appreciation of the unique. Some works include metallic elements, representative of the industrial revolution, historically contemporary with the development of European porcelian. Some works derived from her local natural environment. Yet all works carry an acknowledgent of the female surealist artists,  from whom she feel personally influenced.
